Letter Grades for Math in 6th grade will be based on demonstrations of mastery.
Example: Tom has an A in Math, but he has had trouble understanding a new concept. He fails to pass his assessment. Because of this his grade drops, but he works hard to learn the material and retests and passes. His grade then goes up to an A with no penalty.
Example: Bob has an A in Math, but he also fails to pass an assessment. He doesn't work hard to catch up and falls even farther behind. His grade continues to drop until he catches up and is back on track. When Bob realizes that his grade has dropped to a D, he begins to work harder and stays a couple of afternoons after school to make up his work. When he is caught up to where he should be, he sees that his grade is back to an A.
-Students are expected to grow by taking more and more responsibility for their learning. They will learn how to use a wide variety of tools to learn and express their learning.
